Plowing parking lots, access drives, loading areas, and fire lanes with truck-mounted plows and loader-mounted pushers. We clear the lot before business hours, return during extended storms for touch-up passes, and handle end-of-storm cleanup. Lot size is not a constraint. We have the equipment to handle lots from small retail to large industrial.
- Sidewalk & Walkway Snow Removal
Clearing sidewalks, building entrances, emergency exits, ADA ramps, and pedestrian walkways. Walkway clearing is done with smaller equipment and hand crews to avoid damage to curbing, landscaping, and building surfaces. Walkways are treated with salt or sand after clearing.
- Salting, Sanding & Ice Management
Applying rock salt, treated salt, sand, or calcium chloride to parking lots, driveways, walkways, and building entrances. Ice treatment is applied before, during, and after storms depending on the forecast and contract terms. Pre-treatment before freezing rain events prevents ice from bonding to the surface and reduces the amount of material needed later.
- Snow Hauling & Stacking
When snow piles exceed available stacking space, we load the snow with loaders, haul it off-site in dump trucks, and deposit it at an approved location. Snow hauling restores parking capacity, improves sight lines, and prevents meltwater drainage problems caused by oversized snow piles near buildings.

What Snow Removal Includes
Service levels depend on the contract, but typical commercial snow removal includes:
Weather monitoring: Tracking forecasts and storm timing to plan deployment. For seasonal contracts, we begin monitoring in late October and remain active through April.
Pre-storm treatment (when applicable): Applying salt or brine to parking lots and walkways before freezing rain or ice events. Pre-treatment prevents ice from bonding to the surface and makes post-storm cleanup faster.
Plowing: Clearing parking lots, drives, and fire lanes with truck-mounted plows and loader-mounted pushers during and after the storm. Touch-up passes as needed until the lot is fully clear.
Walkway clearing: Removing snow from sidewalks, entrances, exits, ADA ramps, and pedestrian areas with smaller equipment and hand crews.
Post-storm salt and sand application: Treating cleared surfaces with rock salt, sand, or other deicing material to prevent refreeze and maintain traction.
Snow hauling (as needed): Loading accumulated snow piles and hauling off-site to restore parking capacity and sight lines.
Documentation: Maintaining service logs with date, time, actions taken, and material applied. These records support your liability defense and insurance documentation.

Hale Excavation LLC is a new venture led by Eric Hale, who brings extensive experience in landfill construction, environmental remediation, road construction, and federal projects. He has worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Forest Service, the Air Force, and major environmental firms throughout his career.
1991
Laborer & Surveyor
- Auburn, NY · Cayuga County
Eric returned from the Army to work full-time in construction while staying in the Army Reserves. Joined the apprenticeship program to become a certified operating engineer during this project (completed 1997, a certification he still holds).

From Utica and Rome through the Mohawk Valley, north into Lewis County, west across Onondaga, south into Chenango and Cortland — we work the full Central New York region. Our home base is Sauquoit, and our standard service radius is one to two hours from Utica. For the right project, we travel further.
Do you offer seasonal contracts or per-event service?
Both. Seasonal contracts guarantee priority service for the full winter season at a fixed monthly or seasonal rate. Per-event service is billed per storm and is available for properties that need occasional coverage. Seasonal contracts receive priority scheduling.
What size properties do you service?
We service commercial parking lots, industrial yards, municipal facilities, HOA communities, and multi-unit developments. Our heavy equipment allows us to handle large properties that smaller operators cannot. We also service smaller commercial lots as part of a route.
What is your snow trigger depth?
The trigger depth (the accumulation at which plowing begins) is set in the contract, typically 1 to 2 inches for commercial properties. Salting and ice treatment may begin at any accumulation or ice event, depending on contract terms.
Do you provide salting and ice management separately from plowing?
Yes. Some storms produce ice without significant snow accumulation. We provide standalone salting and sanding service for freezing rain events, black ice conditions, and light accumulations that do not require plowing.
