When to Call for Emergency Excavation
Burst or Broken Water Line
Water gushing from the ground, a sudden loss of water pressure, or water pooling rapidly in your yard or basement. A broken water service line or main needs to be located, exposed, and repaired before the damage spreads. We excavate to the break, complete the repair or replacement, backfill, and compact. Collapsed or Blocked Sewer Line
Sewage backing up into the house, multiple drains failing at once, or raw sewage surfacing in the yard. A collapsed sewer lateral or a blocked main connection needs open-trench excavation to access and repair or replace the damaged section. This is a health hazard that cannot wait.

When a septic system fails, the priority is stopping the backup, accessing the problem, and completing the repair before the situation becomes a health hazard. Washout repair, culvert replacement, road restoration, erosion stabilization, and debris removal after severe weather. You describe the situation. Tell us what is happening: what you see, where the water or sewage is coming from, whether anyone is in danger, and whether you have already called other services (plumber, pumper, utility company).
We assess the urgency. Based on your description, we determine whether immediate mobilization is needed or whether the situation can safely wait until the next available window.
We mobilize equipment. For immediate emergencies, we dispatch equipment and crew to your location. Response time depends on distance from our Sauquoit base and current conditions, but we move as fast as safely possible.
We perform the emergency work. Excavation, repair, stabilization, backfill, and compaction. We resolve as much as possible in a single trip.
We follow up if additional work is needed. Some emergencies require follow-up work once conditions stabilize. We schedule that work and complete it as soon as conditions allow.

Three Decades of Major Project Experience
Hale Excavation LLC is a new venture led by Eric Hale, who brings extensive experience in landfill construction, environmental remediation, road construction, and federal projects. He has worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Forest Service, the Air Force, and major environmental firms throughout his career.
1991
Laborer & Surveyor
- Auburn, NY · Cayuga County
Eric returned from the Army to work full-time in construction while staying in the Army Reserves. Joined the apprenticeship program to become a certified operating engineer during this project (completed 1997, a certification he still holds).

Serving Central New York and the Mohawk Valley
From Utica and Rome through the Mohawk Valley, north into Lewis County, west across Onondaga, south into Chenango and Cortland — we work the full Central New York region. Our home base is Sauquoit, and our standard service radius is one to two hours from Utica. For the right project, we travel further.
What is your emergency response time?
It depends on distance and conditions. For emergencies within Oneida County, we can typically have equipment on-site within a few hours of the call. Does emergency service cost more than regular service?
Emergency mobilization outside of normal business hours may carry additional costs compared to scheduled work. We are upfront about any additional charges before we dispatch. In an emergency, the cost of waiting is almost always higher than the cost of responding.
What should I do while waiting for you to arrive?
If it is safe to do so, shut off the water supply at the main valve for water line breaks. Stay away from sewage, sinkholes, and unstable ground. If the situation involves gas lines or electrical hazards, call 911 first. Document the damage with photos if you can do so safely.
Do you handle emergency work for commercial properties?
Yes. We respond to emergencies at commercial properties, municipal infrastructure, and industrial sites in addition to residential properties. Sewer collapses, water main breaks, and storm damage on commercial sites often require larger equipment and faster response, and we are equipped for it.
