We place gravel base, crushed stone, and other specified materials for driveways, parking areas, and building pads. On new construction sites, we coordinate utility trenching with plumbing, electrical, and municipal connections to avoid rework. After all earthwork is complete, we handle final site cleanup and haul-off so the site is ready for the next trade.
Erosion & Sediment Control Installation
The EPA requires construction stormwater permits for any site disturbing one acre or more. We install silt fencing, construction entrances, sediment basins, and other controls required by your permit. Proper erosion control protects the site, keeps the project in compliance, and prevents fines. According to the EPA, sediment runoff from uncontrolled construction sites is 10 to 20 times greater than from undisturbed land.
Cut & Fill, Site Balancing, and Subgrade Compaction
Uneven sites require cut and fill work to redistribute earth and create a level building surface. We handle site balancing, import and export of fill material, subgrade preparation, and compaction to specification. Central New York terrain varies from flat Mohawk Valley bottomland to rocky hillside lots, and each condition calls for a different approach. On projects that require it, we coordinate compaction testing to verify density meets engineering specifications before foundation work begins.
Building Pad & House Pad Preparation
After clearing, we excavate and shape the building pad to the dimensions and elevation specified by your engineer or builder. This includes residential house pads, garage pads, commercial building pads, and equipment pads. We strip topsoil, stockpile it for later use if needed, place and compact structural fill, and verify grade to ensure a stable, level surface for your foundation. For new home construction, we work from your builder’s site plan to position the pad correctly for drainage, setbacks, and utility access.
Tree removal, stump extraction, brush cutting, vegetation stripping, and lot clearing for new construction. We handle everything from lightly wooded residential lots to heavily overgrown commercial parcels. Debris is hauled off-site and disposed of properly.

Hale Excavation LLC is a new venture led by Eric Hale, who brings extensive experience in landfill construction, environmental remediation, road construction, and federal projects. He has worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Forest Service, the Air Force, and major environmental firms throughout his career.

Eric returned from the Army to work full-time in construction while staying in the Army Reserves. Joined the apprenticeship program to become a certified operating engineer during this project (completed 1997, a certification he still holds).
