Rough Grading & Lot Leveling
The first pass of earthmoving on a new construction site. We reshape the terrain to establish general contours, drainage flow, and approximate elevations. Rough grading is typically done after land clearing and before utility installation. It sets the foundation for everything that follows.
Fine Grading & Finish Grading
The precision pass. After rough grading and utility work, we bring the site to its final grade using laser equipment. Finish grading sets of exact elevations for building pads, driveways, walkways, and landscaping. This is where tolerances tighten, and surface water flow patterns are locked in. The International Residential Code requires the finished grade to fall at least 6 inches within the first 10 feet from any foundation wall to direct water away from the structure.
Drainage Grading & Slope Correction
Water pooling in your yard, against your foundation, or in low spots on your property is almost always a grading problem. We correct slope, reshape drainage paths, build swales and berms, and reestablish proper water flow away from structures. Drainage grading is one of the most common residential grading jobs we do, and it prevents far more expensive problems down the road.
Driveway Grading & Base Preparation
Gravel driveways wash out. Paved driveways crack when the base settles. We grade and compact the subbase for new driveways, regrade existing gravel driveways, and prepare base material for concrete or asphalt installation. Retaining Wall Construction

Eric returned from the Army to work full-time in construction while staying in the Army Reserves. Joined the apprenticeship program to become a certified operating engineer during this project (completed 1997, a certification he still holds).

What is the difference between rough grading and finish grading?
Rough grading is the initial earthmoving pass that establishes general contours and drainage flow. Finish grading is the precision pass that brings the site to exact elevations using laser equipment. Most construction projects need both, done in sequence.
How do I know if my yard needs regrading?
If water pools near your foundation after rain, your yard stays soggy for days, or you see erosion channels forming in your landscape, the grade is likely directing water incorrectly. A free site visit will confirm whether regrading is needed and what the scope of work looks like.
Can grading fix standing water in my yard?
In most cases, yes. Regrading the affected area to create positive slope toward a drainage outlet solves the majority of standing water problems. Some properties also need a French drain, catch basin, or swale in combination with regrading.

Yes. Our crews use laser grading equipment for precise elevation control on finish grading, building pads, and drainage work. GPS-guided equipment is available for larger commercial and municipal projects that require high accuracy across wide areas.
