Excavation Services in Utica, Oneida County

Utica is the county seat of Oneida County and our closest major service area. From our base in Sauquoit, we reach most Utica locations in under 15 minutes, making us one of the fastest-responding excavation contractors available to Utica property owners, builders, and municipal departments.

Hale Excavation is a veteran-owned, licensed, and insured contractor with over 35 years of construction experience. We handle every type of excavation work that Utica properties require: residential site preparation for new homes, drainage solutions for older neighborhoods with water problems, septic work for properties outside the city sewer district, utility installation and repair, demolition of aging structures, and emergency excavation available 24 hours a day.

Utica’s building stock spans more than 150 years, from historic row houses along Genesee Street to postwar residential neighborhoods to modern commercial development. That range means the excavation needs vary widely from one property to the next. An 1890s home with a crumbling foundation wall needs different work than a new commercial site on the city’s edge. We handle both and everything in between. Institutions like Utica University, MVCC, the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, and the Utica Zoo anchor a community that continues to invest in its properties and infrastructure.

Why Utica Properties Need Experienced Excavation

Aging Infrastructure in Established Neighborhoods

Many of Utica’s residential neighborhoods were built in the early to mid-1900s with infrastructure that is now 60 to 100 years old. Galvanized water lines, clay sewer pipes, and undersized drainage systems are common in these areas. When they fail, excavation is required to replace them.

Older Homes with Chronic Drainage and Basement Water Issues

Homes in South Utica, Cornhill, and other established neighborhoods frequently experience wet basements, foundation seepage, and poor yard drainage. These problems are solvable with French drains, regrading, and catch basins, but they require a contractor who understands how water moves through urban and suburban lots.

Commercial Redevelopment and New Construction

Utica’s commercial districts and edge development areas see ongoing investment in new buildings, renovations, and redevelopment projects. Bagg’s Square, the Genesee Street corridor, and areas along the Arterial all have active development. These projects require site preparation, utility installation, stormwater management, demolition of existing structures, and foundation excavation. We serve builders, developers, and general contractors working in the Utica market.

Municipal Infrastructure Projects

The City of Utica and Oneida County maintain roads, water systems, sewer systems, stormwater infrastructure, and public facilities that require ongoing excavation support. We work with municipal departments and their engineering consultants on utility projects, road base preparation, stormwater system construction, and infrastructure improvements throughout the city
